There are a few seasons of the year that our front door has cute decor, but other times it’s just left bare. The transition from late summer to early fall was one of those times. Our front door is actually on the side of our house, so honestly, I sometimes forget that I should put something out there since I never see it. Also, I love our front door color, but the light teal makes it hard to find wreaths with greenery that doesn’t clash. Making an easy DIY magnolia wreath was a perfect quick fix to decorate our door.
As with most home tasks, finding some door decor became a lot more urgent when I hosted my book club’s recent monthly get-together. I thought I’d go to the store quickly and pick up a wreath but couldn’t find anything that would match, didn’t have pumpkins (it wasn’t yet October), and was a good price. Looking around the craft store I found some quick inspiration and decided I could make one myself for very little effort. This quick and easy DIY magnolia wreath would be great year round and you can easily switch out the bow to change the look!

Directions for Easy DIY Magnolia Wreath
Step 1: Lay Out Garland
Take the 6′ magnolia garland and form it into a circle on top of the grapevine wreath form. Make sure it’s about the same size as the underlying wreath.
Step 2: Secure Garland
Cut small pieces of floral wire and use them to tie the garland to the wreath in a few places around the circle. If any small pieces of the garland and sticking out, secure them to the form with additional wire. By the way, if you don’t have floral wire feel free to tie it with anything else! Twist ties or even string would work just as well.
Step 3: Add the Bow
If you’re making a bow, take some wire-edged 2″ wide ribbon in your color of choice. Fold it back and forth to make about 6 loops. Use another piece of floral wire to tie it in the center and then arrange the loops to your liking. Be sure to leave a good amount of ribbon on either end to drape down. You can also buy pre-made bows at craft stores and use those instead. I think a burlap bow would look so cute for fall! I’m still working my way through tons of leftover ribbon from our wedding so pretty much all my projects get a navy or pink bow 😉
Step 4: Hang Wreath
The only wreath hanger I have is Christmas themed. Until I get a more standard one, I added a small command hook to the door and hung the wreath on it. This is a great temporary solution, or even a permanent one if you don’t want to risk scraping the paint on the door.
That’s it! I hope you enjoy this quick and easy DIY magnolia wreath as much as I did. It’s the perfect addition to just about any door.
